The Picton Freezing Works opened in , creating a demand for a reliable form of transport from southern Marlborough. Picton Press has been established for 27 years and is now run by the company directors, Dennis Hague and Gary Kennedy. In April Picton Press purchased Muhlings Printers one of the oldest printing businesses in Western Australia. In November Picton Press merged with Alken Colour Media, a company with over 30 years experience in prepress. Cesar Picton (c. – ) was presumably enslaved in Africa by the time he was about six years old. He was bought and brought to England by an English army officer who had been in Senegal, and in was "presented" as a servant to Sir John Philipps, who lived at Norbiton Place, near Kingston upon Thames in Surrey. Picton later became a wealthy coal merchant in Kingston.
